Who killed Goliath?

IMS teachings – month of May 2012

                                    Who killed Goliath?

1st Samuel 17:                                                         God the Father.

                                                                              God the Holy Spirit.

Obviously, the answer to this question is David, because out of the whole infantry army of Israel – he alone was bold enough to stand up to Goliath’s challenge. David has already been anointed by prophet Samuel (1st Samuel 16 v 12 & 13), and it appears his confrontation with Goliath was his first key assignment after God’s anointing on him. Do you believe in Jesus Christ? If the answer is yes, have you ever been in a similar situation as David’s? If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, then you have a calling. All those that believe in Jesus Christ have a calling. Your calling is whatever is unique in your life. Your uniqueness is a “jewel” in God’s sight.

An anointing – God’s anointing – is what you need to pursue and accomplish your calling in Christian ministry. Anointing is God’s supernatural power He communicates to a believer through our inner man spirit. God’s anointing empowers us to accomplish a goal. Are you familiar with the lyrics of the song “anointing, anointing fall on me – let the power of the Holy Spirit fall on me – anointing fall on me!When God sends the gift of the anointing power to a believer, I believe it is our inner spirit that first receives it. Later our inner man spirit distributes it to the part of our physical body to perform a function.

Let’s look at some examples. God may have blessed you with oratory gift – God’s anointing will empower you to speak up boldly for Jesus Christ. It may be you are gifted with a good voice, then God’s anointing will empower your vocal cords to be a worship leader. Still your gift may be your great physique – then God’s anointing empowers you with great strength to fight and defeat your enemies – Samson in the bible is an example.(Judges 15 v 14,15 & 16). Again God may have gifted you with intellectual ability – then His anointing empowers you with academic common sense to achieve higher grades.

In the case of David, the key factor of God’s anointing was God’s supernatural power. God’s anointing empowered him for boldness and fearlessness to confront Goliath, use one stone in a sling and threw it at his opponent Goliath and Israel’s enemy fell. (1st Samuel 17 v 49).  God the Holy Spirit descended to afflict the Philistines – the bible told us after Goliath’s death, and after David cut of his head – they all fled. (1st Samuel 17 v 51)

On the flip-side, I believe God the Holy Spirit in supernatural power killed Goliath. Let us look at one example here. Before the day of Pentecost the disciples were powerless. Then in the day of Pentecost they were empowered. (Acts 2 v 4). That power led one of them called Peter to stand up and boldly preached Jesus Christ. (Acts 2 v 14). An anointing should not be wasted. I believe attracting God’s anointing is one thing putting your trust in God in executing God’s anointing in you is another. David told Goliath “you came to me with a spear and sword, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou has defied”(1st Samuel 17 v 45). In this statement we can see that David fully trusted in the power of God – for this reason God empowered him with His supernatural power and David used that power to win the battle against God’s enemy, the Philistines.
